Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) scholarship scheme was available to poor students from class XI (11th) to post-graduation level and scholarship scheme for poor students from rural areas from class VI (6th) to class XII (12th) these 2 schemes are known by national means-cum-merit scholarship scheme.

This scholarship scheme is available only for meritorious students from class ninth to post-graduation level.

The aim of the MHRD Scholarship is to provide financial aid to meritorious students who are economically weak and need financial support for education every year.

The MHRD scholarships are awarded on the basis of SSE-senior secondary examination results.

MHRD offers 82000 (Eighty-Two Thousand ) fresh scholarships yearly and 41000 (Forty One Thousand) scholarships for boys and 41000 (Forty-One Thousand) scholarships for girls will be awarded for UG and PG studies.

Eligibility Criteria for MHRD Scholarship:

1. Students must secure 80% marks in class XII (12th)
2. Should not belong to the creamy layer
3. Applicants should pursue regular courses from a recognized board
4. Should not avail any other scholarship except this scheme
5. Students who belong to reserved categories or minorities are eligible on the basis of merit
6. This eligibility criterion is applicable for all category students including general and reserved category

Reservations as per Categories:

• SC category -15 %
• ST category – 71/2 %
• OBC category – 27 %
• Physically Handicapped -3 % in all the categories

Selection Process:

After the examination results, the income of the parents will be taken into a bank account before preparing the merit list. The Boards will write a registered letter to the students the number of scholarships available.

Students should confirm whether they are prepared to accept the scholarship scheme within 15 days of time. If the replies are not received within the period of 30 days of the Board will cancel the scholarship and give it to another student from the merit list.

MHRD Scholarships Amount:

• Rs.1000/- per month at graduation level for 1st 3 years of courses.
• Rs.2000/- per month at post-graduation level.
• 2000/- per month who are pursuing their professional courses in the fourth and fifth year. The scholarship amount will be paid for only 10 months in an academic year.

Parental or Guardian Income:

The scholarship amount will be paid only to non-creamy layer students whose parents or guardians’ annual income is Rs.4.5 lakhs.

Duration of Scholarships Renewal: 

A scholarship scheme is renewable from year to year up to PG level and for all other professional courses, the scholarship scheme will be renewed till the graduation level. It also depends on basis of marks and attendance

MHRD Scholarship Payments: 

The scholarship amount would be paid to the eligible students directly into their bank accounts by the central govt. The scholarship payment will start from the month of admission up to 10 months.
