The Northern Eastern Council Secretariat announced the NEC Merit Scholarship 2023-24 with the purpose of providing financial aid to students of the North East region who are undergoing studies in various disciplines at different levels.
This financial grant will be provided to the students of the North East region who are undergoing studies in institutions inside the region and anywhere within the country. Online applications are invited from the eligible students of Assam who fulfill the following eligibility criteria for the NEC merit scholarship for the year 2023-24.
Financial aid under this scheme will be awarded to students pursuing education under Diploma/ Under- Graduate/ Graduate/ Post Graduate levels and particularly to fields or areas in which the region faces a shortage of adequately trained manpower. The NEC merit scholarship Assam will not be available for an internship or any practical training.
These scholarships are especially and particularly for the students of the North-Eastern States and the candidates pursuing studies within the country. There are certain rules and guidelines that must be met in order to become eligible for this scholarship scheme.
The number of stipends provided under this scheme will be decided by the state government. The selection of candidates and release of funds will be controlled by the expert committee panel and their decision will be considered final in all respect. The eligible candidates of Assam who fulfill the following criteria may apply NEC merit scholarship scheme online for the academic session 2023-24. The aim is to provide financial assistance to the students of the NE Region for professional courses.
NEC Merit Scholarship Details:

• The NEC Merit Scholarship is only eligible for candidates who are permanent residents of North-East states. So, all candidates will be required to submit residence proof certified by the competent authority.
• The annual income of the candidate or their parent/guardian should not be more than 4.5 lakhs per annum, inclusive of all sources. It is mandatory for the candidate to attach original income proof certified by the competent authority.
• In order to apply under the NEC Merit Scholarship Scheme, it is necessary for the candidate to score at least 70% marks in the relevant qualifying examination. For S.C. / S.T. candidates, there is a relaxation of 10 %, so candidates from these categories shall have secured 60% marks in the qualifying examination. In all cases, the candidates will be selected on the basis of merit.
• For candidates applying to get financial aid to pursue M. Phil or Ph.D. or any similar course, they will be provided a grant on the basis of a research topic relevant to the Northeast region.
• In-service applicants are not covered by this scheme.
• Financial aid under this scholarship will be admissible to applicants taking admission in the institutes or universities recognized by the UGC and the respective ministry of India.
• The duration of the financial aid will be tenable for the complete duration of the course. If candidates wish to receive the grant without any discontinuation, they must secure satisfying results in their examinations. In an event where a student fails in a particular year, they will not receive the scholarship until they pass the course.
• The student must not be the recipient of any other financial assistance provided from any source, except national or state merit scholarship.
• If at any stage, the candidate is found to have tampered with the documents or provided any fake information, their scholarship grant will be canceled instantly, and they may be subjected to be refunded the entire money that was once provided to them as a financial grant.
All eligible students will be required to apply online at NSP’s official website scholarships.gov.in. After online registration and submission, the candidates are required to take the printouts of their duly filled forms and submit them to the Director of Technical Education, Assam within the specified date.
Scholarship Renewal:
The scholarship renewal process will be s done on an annual basis each beneficiary needs to fill out the renewal application form submitted along with a passing mark sheet and satisfactory report.
Last Date:
31st December 2023 is the last date to apply for the NEC Merit Scholarship online.
