Coaching Scheme for SC, ST, OBC and Minority Students for Universities

The objective of this scheme is to provide financial assistance for SC, ST, and OBC (noncreamy layer) and minority students for pursuing their higher studies for all those who are not in the position to carry their burden and unable to grab the opportunities of employment without differentiation.

All constitutional safeguards and measures initiated by UGC, where the positions are reserved by SC, ST, and OBC. Minorities are far below the expected level in the universities even after 50 years of independence.

The government of India in various parts of the nation introduces different beneficial schemes for SC, ST, OBC, and Minority students.

The development of minorities indicates the strength and success and it is necessary to consider the needs of minority groups.

The privileges which are declined to give to the majority people should be given to minority people to reach their level of development.

UGC government had decided to make special allocations for minorities such as Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, and gains in the twelfth five-year plan which constitutes about 19% of the Indian population.

The schemes like 1. coaching at UG and PG level 2. Coaching for entry into services, provided in the universities has been merged with the general developmental assistance.

UGC Coaching Scheme

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Colleges under the required number of scheduled caste, scheduled tribes, and minorities can be considered for financial assistance.
  • Colleges under the section of section 2(f) can be considered for the financial assistance of section 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956.
  • According to the university commission, all the candidates who are willing to appear for the national eligibility test (NET) should score about 50% in the university recognized by UGC.

Selection Process:

The selection process undergoes the following steps:

  • Candidates of SC, ST OBC, and minority students will undergo remedial coaching to improve their academic skills, linguistic proficiency which provides a stronger foundation for higher education.
  • Candidates also undergo coaching for cracking national eligibility tests and for entering into the services to focus on their specific requirements on particular competitive exams.
  • The coaching for candidates conducts all the schemes in the university depending on their compatibility.
  • They divide the candidates into groups and each group is given a faculty member to engage them all the time in their coaching
  • One coordinator is associated with all the groups for effective implementation of the coaching program.
  • All the candidates involved in coaching undergo examination and the performances of all the schemes were monitored by UGC standing committee by visiting the examination centers by constituting sub-committees.
  • After the examination, the UGC office undergoes a selection process under the merits of the respective candidate.
