Post-Matric Scholarship (PMS) for OBC Students 2022-23

The Central Government of India announced the post-matric scholarship for OBC students studying in India. This scholarship scheme has been designed with the objective of providing financial aid to minority students at the stage of post-matriculation and higher education stages. The scholarship is only for backward students belonging to the OBC category in India.

This grant provided under this scheme will only be provided for studies in India and the amount sanctioned will be awarded by the respective Government of the state to which the candidate belongs originally.

If the applicant is employed, their annual income combined with all resources should not be more than Rs. 1.00 lakh per annum. In the case where the parent or guardian is the earning body and the student is unemployed, the annual income of guarding or parents should not exceed Rs. 1.00 lakh per annum.

Only two boys of the same parent or guardian will be eligible to receive scholarships under this scheme. But, this restriction will not be bound to the girl candidates. All girl children who belong to OBC families are eligible to apply under this scholarship.

The applicant should not be getting or intend to receive financial aid from any other body or source. Only the reimbursement or fee waiver of tuition fees provided by the State Government shall be acceptable.

Scholarships will be given to all eligible OBC applicants as per eligibility criteria. The other state students should submit the application format to the concerned authorities.

PMS Eligibility Criteria:

  • This scholarship sanctioned by the central government is open to all Indian students who belong to the minority community, mainly OBC students.
  • The financial aid provided under this scheme will be given to students who wish to pursue studies post completing matriculation or secondary courses. It is mandatory for students to pursue these courses in a recognized institution in India.
  • Only the students belonging to the OBC category are eligible to apply. The candidate can apply in relation to the state or Union Territory to which they belong and are permanent residents.
  • The candidate who must have passed Matriculation or any other qualifying examination of a recognized university will be eligible to apply under this scheme.
  • Students, who have already completed their education in one of the professional lines, will not be eligible for this scheme.
  • The students who are studying postgraduate courses in the field of medicine are considered eligible for this scheme, only if they are allowed to practice during the period of the course.
  • Students who after failing or passing the UG/PG exam in Arts/ Science/ Commerce join any recognized professional or technical course eligible. No subsequent failure will be condoned except for courses in Group ‘A’ and no further change in the course will be allowed thereafter.
  • Scholarships should be restricted to up to 2 boys of the same parents or guardians. This restriction will, however, not apply to girls.
  • A scholarship holder under this scheme will not hold any other scholarship/stipend.
  • Scholarship holders who are receiving coaching in any of the pre-examination training centers with financial assistance from the Central Government / State Government will not be eligible for a stipend under the coaching schemes for the duration of the coaching program.
  • Employed students whose income combined with the income of their parents does not exceed Rs.1.50 lakh per annum shall be eligible for a post-matric scholarship to the extent of reimbursement of all compulsorily payable non-refundable fees.
  • Unemployed students whose parents ‘ income from all sources does not exceed Rs.1.50 lakh per annum will be entitled to the scholarship under the scheme.

How to Apply PMS for OBC?

Interested OBC students may apply online through the NSP’s official website https://scholarships.gov.in or from the below-given link on or before the last date.

Documents Needed:

The duly filled application form for a post-matric scholarship for OBC students shall be sent to the prescribed authority comprising of:

  • One copy of passport-size photographs, attested and signed by the student.
  • One copy of the qualifying examination’s passing certificate, i.e. diploma/matriculation/degree.
  • Caste certificate signed by the authorized officer (above the rank of Tehsildar).
  • An income certificate by the guardian or parent, stating the annual income from all sources.

Renewal and Duration:

The scholarship award will be provided till the completion of the course, students must maintain good conduct and full attendance. The scholarship award may be renewed if the Group-A course students fail the examination for the 1st time.

If he fails for the second time in any class the scholar shall carry their own expenses until they promote to the next class. The scholarship will be renewed every year on the basis of good conduct and promotion to the next class.
