National Fellowship for Persons with Disabilities

The University Grants Commission (UGC) invites applications from eligible applicants for the National Fellowship for Persons with Disabilities (NFPwD) for the academic year 2021-22.

Applicants with disabilities are eligible for fellowships under this UGC program. As a result, a handicapped student who intends to get benefits must obtain a disability certificate from the concerned authority designated for that purpose.

There are 200 scholarships available, with 15% reserved for SC and 7.5 percent reserved for ST. After the verification of applications, students whose applications are received online on the UGC portal will be selected solely on the basis of merit marks scored by the students in their PG exam.

Following the selection process, UGC will publish a list of selected applicants’ names. Only after verification of the detailed information provided in the online application submission will they be eligible to apply for the fellowship scheme.

Students who applied for the National Fellowship for Persons with Disabilities will not be eligible for any other fellowship. Students may submit the application online at www.ugc.ac.in. 31st January 2022 is the last date to apply online.

NFPwd Eligibility Criteria:

  • Only citizens of India who belong disabilities category and who want to study M.Phil/Ph.D. are eligible for this scheme.
  • Any candidate with a disability who has been studying the M.Phil/Ph.D program on a full-time basis is eligible for the national fellowship after fulfilling the required criteria for admission to that University or any other academic institution.
  • The fellowship scheme applies to all UGC and Govt. recognized universities and institutions.
  • Employees of any university, college, or educational institution, as well as employees of the central, state, or local governments, are not eligible for the fellowship.
  • The fellowship amount is payable for a total of 5 years.
  • After 2 years of the program, if the research work done by the awardee is found satisfactory, then their stay as Senior Research Fellow will be extended for another 3 years.
  • The cumulative duration of JRF and SRF awards shall not exceed five years.

House Rent Allowance:

Applicants in the institutions may be supplied with suitable single-seated hostel accommodation. In such circumstances, the fellow is only authorized to receive dormitory fees, and no mess, power, or water charges, among other things.

In the event that hostel accommodations are unavailable, the host institution may provide solitary accommodation to the fellow.

If the fellow makes his or her own arrangements for housing, he or she may be eligible for HRA based on the Government of India’s categorization of cities.

Medical Assistance:

There is no fixed medical support available. The fellow, on the other hand, may take advantage of the medical facilities available in the Colleges or Universities.

Payment Mode:

The fellowship amount and any other allowance will be transferred directly to their bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode.

NFPwD Selections:

It should be noted that the University Grants Commission will only make selections; all other things, including correspondence with students and fellowship disbursement, will be handled solely by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.
