MGNCRE Doctoral Fellowship (2023) for Pursuing PhD in Rural Studies

For candidates pursuing Ph.D. and other similar level courses, there’s some exciting news because the MHRD, Government of India has announced MGNCRE doctoral fellowship.

But there is an eligibility criterion for this fellowship that is only for scholars pursuing a Ph.D. in rural studies. Duly filled application forms with required documents have been invited from interested and eligible scholars.

The doctoral fellowship will be awarded only to those candidates who are pursuing the courses in UGC-recognized Indian universities or institutions with a requisite infrastructure of national importance to complete doctoral research in the following subjects of rural studies.

  • Management (Rural)
  • Sociology (Rural)
  • Communication (Rural)
  • Entrepreneurship (Rural)
  • Education (Rural)
  • Field Engagement (Rural)

All applications will be first scanned and scrutinized by the member at the MGNCRE office. Thereafter, expert committees and the subject group will short-list the candidates based on merit, and their recommendations will be placed before the MGNCRE chairman for the final approval of the awardees. A declaration in such a manner should be put together by the selected individual.

A candidate isn’t entitled to receive the same sort of fellowship more than once. While accepting the Doctoral fellowship from the MGNCRE, an applicant ought not to accept some other scholarship or fellowship from some other University /Institute.

Who Can Apply for MGNCRE Fellowship 2022-23?

  • The candidates who are eligible to apply for this fellowship need to have secured admission in the Ph.D. course and have confirmed Ph.D. enlistment at any of the institutions recognized under UGC.
  • To become eligible, the applicant needs to secure 55% in Post-Graduation or similar evaluations in any relevant discipline. 5% relaxation will be given to the SC/ST/PWD applicants.
  • The candidate shall pursue NET/SLET/M Phil from a perceived college. The candidates who are registered post-qualifying Research Entrance Test (RET) led by a university pass the eligibility criteria to apply for the scholarship.
  • The researcher ought not to be over 40 years old on the last date of application, but an age relaxation of 5 years will be provided for SC/ST/PWD/OBC/Women applicants.
  • Applicants who have just profited from the UGC Junior Research Fellowship or availed of fellowship under (JRF)/Rajiv Gandhi Doctoral Fellowship (RGDF)/Maulana Azad Doctoral Fellowship are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Duration and Value of Fellowship:

The duration of this fellowship is for three years, and the value is Rs. 16,000 per month with a contingency grant of 15,000 rupees per annum.

Joining and Release of Fellowship:

The selected candidates shall join the fellowship within the completion of one month from the award letter sent to them. The scholar shall submit the acceptance letter with all documents attested by the affiliating institution.

The Sanction fellowship amount will first be issued for one year period and renewal of the fellowship will be subjected to the candidate’s satisfactory performance in the annual progress report. They should also send the statement of expenditure for the grant issued for the first year.

And the second and third-year installments will be released in two installments, at a period of 6 months each. The third-year installment will also be dependent on performance in the second year and the thesis submitted to the institution.

The duly filled application form with documents in the prescribed format shall be sent by the affiliating college or institution to the Secretary Member of MGNCRE before the last date of application submission printed on the website and in the promotion.
