Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child 2022-23

The University Grants Commission (UGC) of India introduced the postgraduate (PG) Indira Gandhi scholarship to encourage female students to pursue higher education in India.

As it is usually observed that female candidates are forced to discontinue their education because of financial issues, this scheme acts as an effective medium for the empowerment of women candidates.

Realizing the need for effective means of education and the lack of availability of funds female scholars often go through, the government of India announced this scholarship scheme to empower women.

In order to promote higher education for the girl candidates, the UGC announced this special scholarship that aims to provide financial aid to only Single girl child who wishes to pursue post-graduation courses from a recognized Indian college/university, and through a regular or full-time mode of study.

Objectives of the Scheme:

The main objective of this educational grant is to compensate for the cost of post-graduate education in all subjects, particularly for those girl candidates who are the only girl child of their parents. The aim of the proposed scholarship scheme is:

• To provide financial aid to female students who wish to pursue higher education, but lack the finances to support their education.

• To recognize the importance and value of small family norms, thus the scholarship will be granted to only those candidates who are single girls and children of their parents.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Female candidates who are single girl child of their candidates can apply under this scholarship.
  • Female scholars up to the age of 30 years are eligible to apply under this scholarship.
  • The scheme is for those girl students who have secured admission in their first year’s master’s degree course in any recognized institution of the designated university. It is mandatory for the student to pursue regular and full-time courses.
  • Candidates pursuing post-graduation or any master’s degree in distance mode are not eligible to apply under this scheme.
  • This scholarship scheme is particularly for post-graduation students who are in the first year of their course.
  • Female students who have secured admission in any of the PG courses in UGC-approved colleges or universities are the target group of this scholarship scheme.
  • Girl students who are twin daughters of their parents or without having any brothers may also apply under this scheme.
  • In a family one daughter and one son are available, then the girl child will not be eligible to apply under this scholarship.

Scholarship Amount:

The scholarship amount of Rs. 2000/- per month will be granted to the applicants selected under this scheme.

Duration:

The financial aid will be provided continuously for a period of two years i.e. until the completion of the course a candidate is pursuing. No other scholarship of the grant will be payable in the name of medical charges or hostel charges etc.

How to Apply for PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship 2022-23?

Once a year, the concerned authority published advertisements in the employment news, leading newspapers, and on the official website about the submission dates for the scholarship.

All eligible candidates will be required to register and apply online at the NSP scholarship portal https://scholarships.gov.in. It is mandatory for the candidate to first secure admission in the PG course and only then they can apply for the scholarship.

The UGC will declare the list of selected candidates online on its official website www.ugc.ac.in who will be awarded financial support for two continuous years.

The selected candidates will be required to print their award letter available on the website by logging in with the registration details. The selected students will then be required to visit the designated brand with their award letter and all documents for verification, and details filled in the proforma.
