Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme in India

Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS) as part of the National Social Assistance Program (NSAP).

In 2007 Government of India approved the pension scheme (Pension Yojana) for old age people of (BPL) below the poverty line in the age group of 60 years to 79 years.

The Govt of India has decided to lower the age limit from 65 years to 60 years under the ongoing IGNOAPS and also to increase the rate of assistance from Rs.200 to Rs. 500 for beneficiaries of 80 years and above.

The revised criteria for the grant of pension under the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme would be as under.

Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme

Eligibility Criteria for IGNOAPS:

For the purpose of claiming central assistance, the following Eligibility criteria shall apply.

  • The age of the applicant (He or She) shall be 60 years or higher
  • must belong to a household living (BPL) below the poverty line according to the criteria prescribed by the Govt of India.

Amount of Pension:

  • The Central Assistance under Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS) will be provided at the rate of Rs.200/- per month for all the beneficiaries in the age group of 60 years to 79 years.
  • The Central Assistance under IGNOAPS will be provided at the rate of Rs.500 per month for all the beneficiaries in the age group of 80 years and above.

Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme Application Procedure:

The eligible persons can apply by following the below-mentioned steps:

  1. Get an application form from Social Welfare Department in the concerned area.
  2. Fill in all information in the Application form.
  3. Submit the application form along with all documents to the concerned Tehsil Social Welfare Officers. An applicant from the urban area can directly submit the application to the concerned District Social Welfare Officer.
  4. The application will be verified by officers
  5. The Social Welfare department will recommend the beneficiaries to District Social Welfare Officer.
  6. And the final sanction will be made by District Level Sanctioning Committee (DLSC).

Note: There may be different procedures and official websites for different states.

Sanction of Pension:

Sanction of pension to all the beneficiaries will be made after data of the beneficiary will be uploaded in the Ministry website.

Payment Mode:

The payment will be credited to a post office or electronic money order or beneficiary bank account. The payment mode of monthly disbursement will be made on the basis of the convenience of all the beneficiaries.

Beneficiary Identification:

The Gram Panchayat or Municipalities will play an important role in the beneficiary’s identification.

Allocation of Funds:

The funds for the operation of the schemes relating to IGNOAPS, IGNDPS, IGNWPS, and National Family Benefit Scheme as part of the National Assistance Program and Annapurna will continue to be released in a combined manner.

Every beneficiary under this scheme of NSAP will get a Pension Passbook. The Pension Passbook contains complete details of the sanction order and disbursement details.
