Post-Matric Scholarship for Transgender Students 2021-22

Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment announce the scheme of post-matric scholarships for transgender students for studies in India. Article 14 guarantees all people’s equality before the law.
Education is common to all which is to be made available to persons of all genders including transgender persons. Hence, educational scholarship to transgender students who are living in different parts of the country has been planned.
The objective of the scholarship scheme is to provide financial assistance to transgender students studying at the post matriculation or post-secondary stage to enable them to complete their education.
The scholarships are available for studies in India only and are awarded by State Governments / Union Territories where the applicants are studying. The application received after the last date shall not be entertained.
It is intimated that the post-matric scholarship for transgender persons of class 11th and above is awarded by the Government of India to the students for studies in India and applications are invited for the students who belong to the transgender category and are permanent residents of U.T., Chandigarh.

The scheme detail is available on the official website of this department e.g. www.chdeducation.gov.in. You are requested to ensure that all candidates of your institutions, whose parental annual income does not exceed Rs.2,50,000/- are covered under the scheme.

Apply PMS Scholarship for CAPF, AR Personnel & State Police
Eligibility Criteria:
- The scholarships are open to nationals of India.
- The scholarships will be given for the study of all recognized post-matriculation or post-secondary courses pursued in recognized institutions.
- Only those candidates, who are transgender and who have passed the matriculation or higher secondary or any higher examination of a recognized university or board of secondary education, will be eligible.
- Candidates who after passing one stage of education are studying in the same stage of education in different subjects e.g. I.Sc. After I.A. or B.Com. After M.A. in another subject will not be eligible.
- Students who, after having completed their educational career in one professional line, e.g. L.L.B. after B.T./B.Ed. will not be eligible.
- Scholarships will be paid to the students whose parent’s annual income from all sources does not exceed Rs.2, 50, 000/-.
- Students studying in class XI of the higher secondary school courses of the XII class of the multipurpose high school will not be eligible for it being a continuous school course.
- Students pursuing post-graduate courses in medicine will be eligible if they are not allowed to practice during the period of their course.
- Students who after failing or passing the undergraduate/post-graduate examinations in Arts/ Science / Commerce / join any recognized professional or technical certificate/diploma/degree courses will be awarded scholarships if otherwise eligible.
- Students who pursue their studies through correspondence courses are also eligible. The term correspondence includes distant and continuing education.

Selection of Students:
All eligible transgender students will be given scholarships subject to eligibility conditions. Students belonging to one state but studying in another state will be awarded scholarships by the State/UT in which they are studying.
How to Apply PMS for Transgender?
All eligible students may apply for the above scholarship on or before the last date and the scholarship forms complete in all respects may be sent to the office. Further, it is also requested that the forms along with relevant documents shall be submitted to this office with the enclosed proforma in CD with Microsoft-excel format.
Application complete in all respects shall be submitted to the office of Director Higher Education, Additional Deluxe Building, U.T Sector-9 D, Chandigarh along with all supporting documents.
Scholarship Renewal 2021-22:
The scholarship award once made will be tenable from the stage at which it is given to the completion of the course subject to good conduct and regularity in attendance. It will be renewed from year to year provided that within a course that is continuous for a number of years, the scholar secures promotion to the next higher class irrespective of the fact whether such examinations are conducted by a university or the institution.
If a transgender scholar pursuing any of the Group I courses fail in the examination for the first time, the award may be renewed. For second and subsequent failure in any class, the students shall bear their own expenses until he/she secures a promotion to the next higher class.
