Grant of Additional Scholarship to ST Students in Andaman & Nicobar

The Directorate of Tribal Welfare, A&N Administration proposes to provide “Grant of additional scholarship to ST students for pursuing higher studies” under UT Scheme for the academic year 2023-24 to the students belonging to Scheduled Tribe community.

ST student pursuing graduation, post-graduation and post matriculation level non-degree courses for which educational qualification is vocational stream, ITI course, 3-year diploma course in polytechnic etc. are eligible to avail the scheme.

National Scholarship Portal (NSP) at www.scholarships.gov.in. Value of additional scholarship is Rs. 1000/- Rupees one thousand only) per month which will be paid to the eligible students through NSP/PFMS. The additional scholarship shall be payable for ten months in an academic session. It shall be normally admissible to the pass-out students of previous academic session.

The aim of the Grant of Additional Scholarship to ST Students in Andaman & Nicobar is to offer extra financial support, in the form of scholarships, to students belonging to the Scheduled Tribes (ST) who are pursuing higher education beyond the 12th Standard at Colleges/Universities across India.

Eligibility Criteria:

1. The additional scholarship is available to all students belonging to ST in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

2. This additional scholarship is applicable for pursuing higher education in recognized regular and full-time Post-Senior Secondary courses, Graduate/Post Graduate courses, as well as Doctoral and Post-Doctoral courses in any government-recognized institutions.

3. Students currently enrolled in class XI of Higher Secondary School courses or the XII class of Multipurpose High School are not eligible for this supplementary scholarship.

4. Students who, having completed one stage of education, are continuing in the same stage of education but in a different subject are not eligible. Similarly, those who have completed their educational career in one professional course and are applying for another professional course are also ineligible for this scholarship.

5. Students pursuing post-graduate courses in medicine can avail of this scholarship, provided they are not permitted to practice during the duration of their course.

Scholarship Amount:

All the eligible students will receive a monthly amount of Rs. 1000/-.

Renewal of Scholarship:

The scholarship will be renewed from year to year provided that within a course, which is continuous for a number of years, the beneficiary secures promotion to the next higher class.

How to Apply Online?

Students are required to register and submit their applications through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Those applying for the first time on the NSP portal are categorized as Fresh students. On the other hand, students who have previously received the additional scholarship and are reapplying are referred to as Renewal students.

31st January 2024 is the last date to apply online for Grant of Additional Scholarship to ST Students in Andaman & Nicobar Islands for the academic year 2023-24.
