About University:
The mission of the University is to develop human resource for furtherance of knowledge through teaching, research and innovation and ranked among the top educational institutions of the world for the better service to the humanity in general and our nation in particular. Career Advancement Scheme shall apply to the University of Lucknow and its Associated Colleges.
The idea of building a Lucknow University was first mooted by Raja Sir Md. Ali Mohammad Khan, Khan Bahadur, KCIE of Mahmudabad, who wrote an article to the columns of The Pioneer urging the foundation of a Lucknow University.
The very 1st step to bring the University into being was started when a Committee of educationists and people interested in university education hire for the purpose, met in conference at Govt. House, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh on 10th November, 1919. In the meeting Sir Harcourt Butler outlined the proposed scheme for the new university.
Lucknow University is a Unitary, Teaching and Residential University of the kind recommended by the Calcutta (Kolkatta) University in 1919, and should consist of Faculty of Arts, including Oriental Studies, Science, Medicine, Law, many others.
The University Court has build in the month of March, 1921, and the 1st meeting of the court was held on 21st March, 1921 and the other authorities such as Executive Council, Academic Council, and Faculties came into existence in the month of Aug and Sep, 1921.
The following 3 Colleges offered the nucleus for the establishment of the Lucknow University: King George’s Medical University, Canning College Luknow and Isabella Thoburn College.
