Nagpur (Maharashtra):

Nagpur's 82.7 crime rate in theft cases is the highest in the state. Nagpur had the second highest number of murders in the country over romantic relationships after Delhi. In 2021, 1409 violent crimes were reported.

Ghaziabad (UP):

Ghaziabad saw nearly 70% spike in crimes from 2020 to 2021. Burglaries, rapes, domestic abuse, molestation, hit and run almost every crime in Ghaziabad saw an increase in 2021 from the previous year.

Patna (Bihar):

As per the data of Bihar police, Patna registered the highest number of cognizable crime in the state with a staggering 23,595 cases of murder, kidnapping, dacoity, rape, theft and burglary between January 2020 and October 2020.

Jaipur (Rajasthan):

In 2019, Jaipur’s crime rate for economic offences was 198.7 per lakh population which fell to 104.7 in 2020. Despite the lower numbers in 2020, Jaipur continue to register the highest crime rate in the country as far as economic offences are concerned.

Indore (MP):

According to Bhaskar News, Indore stood 6th in serious crimes and 10th in crimes related to senior citizens in 2020. On the other hand, the city has come on top in the country in terms of child crimes.

Chennai (TN):

According to TOI, Crime statistics show it wasn’t a good one for Chennaiites: There was a marked increase in the number of thefts and burglaries in 2022 over the previous year; murders and rapes increased marginally; and gangster killings dipped considerably.

Ahmedabad (Gujarat):

According to TOI, Ahmedabad registered 48 murders in 2022 against 44 in 2021. In the 1st six months of this year, there was an increase in serious crimes including attempt to murder, loot, and rioting compared to the same period last year.

Kochi (Kerala):

According to NCRB data shows for the year 2020 Kerala has the highest charge-sheeting rate, at 92.5%, in the country for violent crimes. Most of the cities mentioned on the list have higher crime rates than depicted they just don't register them as much as the one's in Kochi.

Surat (Gujarat):

As the law and order situation in Surat is deteriorating, one after another case of heinous crimes, including murder, robbery, burglary, molestation and misdemeanors, are being reported day in and day out.


Heinous crime cases in Delhi have seen an almost 13 per cent rise in the first 6 months of 2022 compared to the corresponding period last year. The city witnessed 277 cases of murder, almost 18 per cent rise from 235 in 2021, Delhi Police data showed.
