Tagore National Fellowship/Scholarship for Cultural Research (2023-24)

The Ministry of Culture, Government of India invites online applications from eligible applicants for the scheme of fellowships and scholarships under the program “Tagore National Fellowship for Cultural Research”.

The main objective of this fellowship and scholarship scheme is to give strength and reinvigorate various cultural institutions of India by supporting scholars to affiliate themselves with these cultural institutions to work on different projects of their interest.

The scheme envisages two categories of awards:

  1. The first category of Tagore national fellowship is to be paid an honorarium of Rs.80,000/- per month and up to 15 awards will be given in a year.
  2. The second category will be the Tagore research scholarship to be paid an honorarium of Rs.50,000/- and under this category, up to 25 awards will be given in a single year.

The fellowship scheme is open for Indian nationals as well as foreign citizens. Eligible fellows who can give the time of 2 years for the resource-based project may apply at any time during the academic year to the concerned nodal institution.

Tagore fellowship once awarded the applicants may not apply again under this scheme, either from the same or a different institution. The amount of the fellowship may be provided on a monthly basis to each candidate.

The selected candidates will be eligible for a 30% accommodation allowance of their usual pay, including honorarium paid, subject to the production of rent receipts.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Individuals with strong academic or professional backgrounds and a notable record of contributing to knowledge within their specific domains are qualified to seek the Tagore National Fellowship.
  • Scholars with 5 years of experience in research are eligible for fellowship.
  • Applicants are expected to demonstrate an impressive list of publications, with a minimum requirement of at least two monographs in their name.
  • Additionally, prospective fellows must provide a concise written statement outlining the potential benefits of their proposed research to the relevant nodal institution.

Fellowship Duration:

The fellowship duration will be for a period of 2 years. In some cases, the institution may recommend to the NSC an extension for one more year.

How to Apply for Tagore Fellowship 2023-24?

Applicants may submit their applications to any one of the nodal institutions of his/her choice depending upon the area of research proposed to be undertaken. The application should be sent directly to the respective Nodal Institutions on or before 25th October 2023.
