What is the Difference between SSC, CBSE and ICSE Board?

But what is the difference between SSC/CBSE/ ICSE? Which is the right board for your child’s education? What are the drawbacks and positives of each board?

What are SSC, CBSE, and ICSE Board?

Some people’s misconception is that all three are the same. No, they are not. SSC is Secondary School Certificate. CBSE is the Central Board of Secondary Education. ICSE is an Indian Certificate for Secondary Education.

So here let us talk about each board individually and understand the differences between SSC, CBSE, and ICSE board.

SSC, CBSE and ICSE Board

1. Secondary School Certificate:

Secondary School Certificate, SSC is basically considered as a state board conducting secondary examinations. SSC is a public examination in Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Goa, and Maharashtra in India.

Also, Pakistan and Bangladesh have SSC. SSC public examination is taken after finishing 10 years of schooling. SSC examination is equivalent to the General Certificate of Secondary Education, England (GSCE).

• State Centric Content.

• SSC includes state language as a subject in the syllabus. Thus, children can learn the local state language in all aspects.

• Includes extracurricular activities in the curriculum.

• Compared to CBSE and ICSE, SSC has limited subjects and syllabus. Thus one needs to undergo extra coaching for IIT and other competitive examinations.

2. Central Board of Secondary Education:

The Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE has a syllabus up to class 12. This curriculum is set by the National Council of Educational Research and Training, NCERT.

Students will need to take 2 board examinations. One is the All India Secondary School Examination for the 10th class and the other is the All India Senior School Certificate Examination for the 12th class.

However, students can change to state board i.e., State Intermediate Board after their 10th if they want to.

• Since CBSE has a national wide syllabus, it is easy to learn the national language and move around in the country.

• It has a comparatively potential curriculum when it comes to general knowledge.

• The syllabus doesn’t go deep into the subject.

• Overall children’s growth is assured.

• Children can choose any career after their class x.

3. Indian Certificate of Secondary Education:

Indian Certificate of Secondary Education, ICSE is a prominent education board. It conducts the ISCE exam for class 10 and Indian School Certificate (ISC) for class 12 students. Children will have a strong basis if they opt for ISCE.

 Although ISCE is tough, the future scope is more on this board. Since they have a vast and deep syllabus in each subject, children will have way more scope and opportunities. The overall child development is guaranteed in ISCE.

• As the basics in ISCE are stronger than SSC and CBSE, children will have more exposure to all opportunities

• ISCE involves kids in writing, reading, talking, debating, guiding, and what not everything.

• Concept oriented learning in the curriculum

• The negative in ISCE is there is an unnecessary vast syllabus

• If students have plans to study abroad, ISCE suits them best.
