Eligibility Criteria:

Under this scheme, all children who have experienced the loss of both parents, surviving parent, legal guardian, adoptive parents, or a single adoptive parent due to COVID-19 will be eligible for benefits. It is important to note that the child must not have reached the age of 18 at the time of their parent’s death.

The PM CARES for Children Scheme is designed to provide support to all children who have lost both parents, legal guardians, adoptive parents, or surviving parents due to COVID-19, without any discrimination based on their caste, religion, gender, or location. As long as their applications have been verified and approved by the District Nodal Authorities on the PM CARES for Children Portal, they are eligible for the Scheme’s benefits.

To receive scholarship benefits under the Scheme, students must have a bank account. The scholarship amount will be provided directly into their bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode, which will be linked with their Aadhar numbers. This ensures that the scholarship amount is transferred directly to the beneficiary’s bank account without any intermediaries, and the process is transparent and efficient.

Scheme Benefits:

Under the PM CARES for Children Scheme, an allowance of Rs. 20,000/- per child per annum will be provided, which includes a monthly allowance of Rs. 1,000 per month and an annual academic allowance of Rs. 8,000. The academic allowance will cover the entire school fees, the cost of books, uniforms, shoes, and other educational equipment required by the child.

Children who are beneficiaries of the PM CARES for Children Scheme will have the option to migrate to other schemes of any Ministry/Department, subject to their eligibility and if it is more beneficial to them. However, this migration exercise can be carried out only once up to class 12.

Interested and eligible students can apply for PM CARES through its official website, pmcaresforchildren.in. The online website was introduced to all the States and Union Territories on July 15, 2021, and they have been asked to identify and register eligible children on the website.

Additionally, any citizen can also inform the administration regarding a child eligible for support under this scheme through the website. This ensures that the scheme is easily accessible to all eligible children and that they can receive the benefits they are entitled to.

Follow these Steps to Register a Child Online:

  • Visit the PM Cares official https://pmcaresforchildren.in.
  • Click on the ‘CHILD REGISTRATION’ button on the menu.
  • Enter your mobile number for verification.
  • You will then receive an OTP enter the OTP.
  • Once you verify a new Child Registration form will open.
  • Fill out the form correctly and then click on the ‘Submit’ button.
  • You will get an application ID.
  • Please save the application ID to track the application status.
