Bharathiar University was founded in Coimbatore by the Tamil Nadu Government in Feb, 1982 with the Bharathiar University Act, 1981. PG Center of the Madras University, working in Coimbatore for 1982 is the core of the Bharathiar University. Bharathiar University was recognized by the UGC in May, 1985.
