Good News! for those who always wanted to join Indian Arm forces and serve the country. Now you will get a chance to serve the nation for 4 years.

The Defence Ministry of India today announced the Agnipath Recruitment Scheme (Agniveer Yojana) for 45,000 youngsters. The scheme has been finalized by the central government and will be implemented soon.

The youths will be recruited as soldiers for 4 years and will be named ‘Agniveer’. Under this recruitment scheme, you will have the option to join Indian Arm Forces (Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force.

Agnipath Yoijana

Eligibility Criteria:

Age Limit: Age limit for Agniveer from 17 ½ to 21 years.

Recruitment: Candidates will be enrolled under the respective Service Act for a service duration of 4 years including training period. Recruitment as per terms and conditions.

Training: Imparted rigorous military training in existing training centers.

Service: Opportunity to serve the nation in varied terrain from mountain to deserts, on Land Sea or Air.

Financial Package:

Composite Annual Package:

1st year package approximately Rs.4.76 Lacs
Upgration up to approximately Rs.6.92 Lacs in 4th year

Allowance (Salary):

Risk & hardship, ration, dress, travel allowances as applicable.

Seva Nidhi:

  • 30% of monthly emoluments to be contributed by individuals.
  • Equal amount matched & contributed by the Govt.
  • Corpus of approximately Rs.11.71 Lacs after 4 years exempted from income tax.

Death Compensation:

  • Non-contributory like insurance cover of Rs.48 Lacs for death attributed to service.
  • Pay for unserved portion upto 4 years including Seva Nidhi component.

Disability Compensation:

  • Compensation based on percentage disability laid down by medical authorities.
  • One time ex-gratia of Rs.44 / 25 / 15 Lacs for 100% / 75% / 50% disability respectively.

On Completion:

All candidates entitiled Seva Nidhi on completion of 4 years and will be given a Skill Gained Certificate.

Screening Assesment:

  • Centralised transparent screening based on merit and demonstrated performance during service.
  • Agniveers can apply on volunteer basis to enroll in the regular cadre.


  • Selection through centralized, transparent and rigorous system.
  • On enrolment in regular cadre, pay fixed as regular soldier.
  • Pension as per extant regulations.
