Central Sector Scholarship Scheme for College & University Students 2023-24

The “Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship (CSSS) for College and University Students” is administered by the Department of Higher Education. The primary aim of this scheme is to offer financial support to exceptionally talented students to help cover a portion of their daily expenses as they pursue higher education. It serves to alleviate some of the financial burdens associated with pursuing advanced studies.

The Ministry of Education, Government of India, awards these scholarships based on the results of the Higher Secondary or Class XII Board Examination. Every year, a maximum of 82,000 fresh scholarships are granted to students pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in colleges and universities, as well as professional courses like Medical and Engineering.

The total number of scholarships is distributed among the State Education Boards in proportion to each state’s population in the age group of 18-25 years. The allocation is done after setting aside the share of scholarships for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) based on the number of students graduating from various boards across the country.

Additionally, 50% of the scholarships are specifically reserved for female students, promoting and supporting their access to higher education. Online applications under the CSSS scheme are being invited through the NSP official portal website scholarships.gov.in. For the academic year 2023-24 the process of inviting online applications has begun and the last date is 31st December 2023.
